This septic system installation in Kelowna, British Columbia was completed for a new home build on a very challenging site with steep slopes and limited space.
We began by adding a layer of bedding sand and compacting the area thoroughly before setting the septic tanks in place. Water was added to improve compaction and ensure a stable base.
Due to the location near Okanagan Lake, access to the site required maneuvering equipment up a steep bank from the lakeshore.
Due to the way the building sewer exited the home, we redirected the drain line from the septic tank back toward the front of the property into a pump chamber.
From there, we installed force mains across the highway to reach the drainfield locations. Two separate lines were installed, one for each home, and were color-coded for proper identification.
Using horizontal directional drilling, we safely routed the force mains beneath the highway without disturbing the surface.
The drainfield installation utilized Eljen GSF Modules to achieve Type 2 effluent quality. Specified sand was placed and shaped to form raised mounds supporting the modules.
Pipework was installed to distribute effluent evenly through a distribution box, ensuring balanced flow across the system.
Protective fabric was placed over the modules and pipes before additional sand was installed to prevent intrusion and maintain system integrity.

A secondary drainfield was constructed for an additional home, following the same process of sand placement, module installation, and final grading.
Once complete, the system was contoured, leveled, and prepared for topsoil and landscaping.
The septic tanks were then backfilled using sand and a stone slinger, bringing them up to final grade and ready for the next phase of construction.
